Inauguration of Bihi School

The Bihi School (Shiree Gumpa Himali Basic School) is an extension of Serang Primary School. It was conceptualized in 2022, begun construction on 25 Mar 2023 and successfully came into fruition in 3^rd Quarter of 2023. The Bihi school was built with guidance from the Founder of Serang Primary School, Nubtul Rinpoche and his Team, supported by Human Care Education and Merck Family Foundation.

The school was officially inaugurated on 22 Oct 2023 by Karma Rinpoche, Tulku Jigme Rinpoche, Nubtul Rinpoche, Dr Thomas from Human Care Education, Representatives from Merck Family Foundation and the Chairman of Tsum Nubri Municipal Office.

The Bihi School was imperative to accommodate the growing number of students and staff at Serang Primary School and to maintain a conducive learning environment. There are currently 114 students, 24 staff and 11 mules (used for transportation of food/ basic living necessities for the community) at Serang Primary School, which is 2 times more than what it can hold. The influx of students and staff was partly due to the limited resources of parents in the villages, the growth in educational needs, and the deterioration of teaching conditions throughout the region. With the Bihi School, children have more space to learn and reside in, providing them with a better quality of life.

Besides the additional space, the Bihi School is also located at a lower altitude of 2120m as compared to Serang Primary School, which is located at an altitude of 3200m. Thus, young children will not be exposed to harsh winter conditions, where temperatures can reach -15°C.

There are many more children in the villages who are eager to attend the Bihi School and have been placed on a waiting list.
